We Will Remember (Song By Maverick City Music + Upperoom)

I feel like in this season the Lord is doing a returning. It has happened in my own personal life and I truly believe that this is what the Lord is wanting to do for many believers who have been feeling stuck, lost, confused, burnt out, just plain over it all.

This collaboration between Maverick City and Upperoom, is one of the many songs released by Maverick City that has spoke to my spirit and soul.

This song tells the story of looking back to what the Lord has done and letting that impact us here in the present and future.

Here are the lyrics:

[Verse 1]
The bread Your body
The wine Your blood
Sweet communion
You set a table for us
The crucified Jesus
No greater love
Than the bread Your body
Than the wine Your blood

[Chorus]
Oh, we will remember
Oh Jesus Jesus our Savior
Oh just to know You in Your suffering
Just to get me closer than we’ve ever been
Oh, we will remember

[Verse 2]
The holes in Your hand
The wound in Your side
Thirty nine lashes
Brought me back to life
Before resurrection
There was a grave
In hell there was a battle
And my life was saved

[Chorus]
Oh, we will remember
Oh, Jesus our Savior
Oh just to know You in Your suffering
Just to get me closer than
I’ve ever been Oh, we will remember

[Bridge]
This is our Savior
Look at Him, look at Him
Our Christ Redeemer
Look at Him, (would you) look at Him

[Chorus]
Oh, we will remember
Oh, Jesus our Savior
Oh just to know You in Your suffering
Just to get me closer than I’ve ever been
Oh, we will remember

Remember – Maverick City Music and Upperoom

What I love about Maverick City is that their worship unto God is not only filled with passion and talent but also scripture.

Scripture references:

–> “The bread your body, the wine your blood”

1 Corinthians 11:24-25
…and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

–> “His eyes like fire”

Revelation 19:12
His eyes were as a flame of fire,

–> “Up from the muck and the miry clay, You lifted me, You lifted me”

Psalm 40:2
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

–> “How could we forget, after what we’ve experience”

Psalm 103:2-5

Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

I know this is what the Lord is speaking to me because when I went to church this past Sunday, the speaker went on a tangent  (which often is the Holy Spirit) and talked about the troop sent into the promise land to scout it out (Numbers 13:1-33).

While their report was good at first, confirming that the land did flow with milk and honey, they soon began to dwell on the giants in the land. They began to feel intimidated. They saw themselves as small and did not trust that the Lord could see them through. They had forgotten what He had done to get get them out of Egypt and the many ways he was sustaining them in the wilderness.

They in essence, looked to the giants for their reassurance and it was not a good one!

My life has been renewed as I am watching God bring me back to him.

At the start of this year my faith almost took a turn for the worse, but God in his great mercy, guided me into truth.

As I leaned into Him, I began to sense a returning back to a particular season in my life. Perhaps it was not mean to be a season but a way of being. But life happened as it always does, and somewhere between then and now, I was led astray.

I was beginning to hear songs from that time frame, oldies like this one and this one. I was beginning to fall back in love with the word of God.

All of this after what was an unexpected and unprecedented year. The hardest one, a lot of us have ever had or at least in a very long time.

But that is just like God: to show up and lead us back to truth when we have come to the end of our ways and call out to him to help us.

At some point you really loved God, you valued his word and the promises he placed in your heart were vibrant, alive and well. Today you may feel like those dreams are buried beneath deep thick dust.

But there is good news for you, God is returning you back to that place where you knew him and walked with him

Take a moment to remember where you have been in the Lord and where you once wanted to go with him. Where you once did go with him. What you saw with your eyes.

Was it a mission trip to Africa, was it to write, to teach? What if he was gently bringing you back to himself? For the plans and purposes He had for you and not the ones you had for yourself?

Look to the Lord. Sometimes we want to know the how, but it’s only the step in front of us we need to know to take.

Amazing things happen when we look away from ourselves and into the eyes of the God who designed and destined us. He knows what we need and He knows how to get it us.

We can stop trying so hard, burning ourselves out and instead trust in the truth that God’s got us. He leads us gently. The testimonies of what he has done in our lives and did for us on the cross is more than enough for us to know he is good and true.
